What LAREAC Does For Louisiana Appraisers

Advocate

LAREAC provides a unified platform for appraisers to engage in constructive dialogue with policymakers.

We fight for your interests at the Louisiana legislature and REAB. From AMC fee regulations to licensing standards, LAREAC ensures appraisers have a seat at the table.

Connect

Join a statewide network of professionals who support each other. Share insights, build relationships, and strengthen the profession together.

Our role is to support a community of professionals who value high standards, not to direct business decisions or market behavior.

Educate

We monitor state and federal legislative and administrative actions that may impact the appraisal profession or consumer confidence in the valuation process.

LAREAC provides members with accurate, timely, and relevant information to help them remain informed and engaged.

Protect

We safeguard the public trust and the independence of our profession.

When appraisal standards are threatened, LAREAC speaks up.

Proven Legislative Track Record

LAREAC members are directly involved in the legislative process. Your membership directly funds the policy, lobbying, and research work that protects every deal you do in Louisiana.

Here are a few of the accomplishments of our Louisiana appraisers working together:

Louisiana Appraiser Liability Reform – A Win for the Profession:
Louisiana enacted R.S. 9:5610, establishing clear limits on legal actions against real estate appraisers.

This law provides:
• A one-year prescriptive period for filing claims
• A three-year absolute deadline for any action, regardless of discovery

By creating a firm statute of repose, Louisiana has brought appraisers in line with other licensed professionals and reduced long-term liability exposure.

This reform supports a more stable appraisal environment, protects small businesses, and ensures that claims are brought within a reasonable and predictable timeframe.

LAREAC supports this common-sense protection for Louisiana appraisers and recognizes it as a meaningful advancement for the profession.
HB 838 enacted and became Act 200:
This law raises temporary registration fees for out of state appraisers coming in to Louisiana for specific assignments from $50 to $150 plus a $25 processing fee. This brings us roughly in balance with the amount charged Louisiana appraisers to complete temporary assignments in most southern states. Texas and Florida remain much higher.
HB 1018 enacted and became Act 213:
Technical language clean up of our Appraiser Law to comply with the letter and intent of federal mandates. Key changes included a requirement for both the supervising appraiser and the sponsored trainee to take an appropriate course. Also reduced CE hours to 28 per renewal cycle or 14 per year in keeping with federal reciprocity guidelines.
Protected critical tax incentives
Appraiser Fees to be paid within 30 days after the appraiser provides the completed appraisal report to the appraisal management company.
SB 575 enacted and became Act 764:
Removed burdensome additional oversight provisions placed on the REAB in rulemaking on AMC issues. The REAB now operates under the Administrative Procedures Act like every other state board or agency in terms of public notice and rulemaking procedures.
Federal ASC "Good" Rating:
A full federal ASC audit of our REAB programs resulted in Louisiana achieving a “Good Rating”. Louisiana was one of only five states to achieve this distinction.
Statewide Fee Study:
Worked with Appraisal Board to establish a statewide appraisal fee study for reasonable and customary fees.
Mandatory AMC Licensing:
Established Mandatory Licensed Program for AMC in Louisiana
